    2nd diy hammock

The black and purple ripstop I ordered will be delivered today! I'm excited.

I'm going to be following the gathered end guide by knotty but I don't think it mentions a way to leave a slit open if your making a double layer hammock for thinks like a pad?

Anyone care to explain how a good way to go about doing that would be?

And here it is! Its amazing how great it feels to lay in it. If my wife would let me I would hang it above the bed and sleep in it tonight. Thanks to Shaw (SaintSteve) for letting me use his sewing machine to make this one as well as my first version!

Picture time! It was 10:30 at night when I gave this a test run at my local park so please excuse the quality of the pictures.

Thank you guys again for the links and support in making this! It turned out much better than the first!

Is there any actual reason to hem the layers together at all?

I haven't messed with a double layer yet but I think I'm going to make my first hammock a double layer as the fabric I have seems awfully thin plus it will give me a pocket for my pads.

It seems like you could just take the full 7 yards in one long strip. Hem the long sides and then sew the short ends together so you've just made a giant ring of fabric.

Lay this out flat and since its now doubled over you have the length you wanted to begin with.

Run your cord through it and whip it and once you pull it all tight it should stretch into a hammock and you can reach in between the layers as needed.

    Won't that work?

My dbl started out with just the ends stitched together. I had to be careful to align the edges when I got in and sometimes the layers would mis-align as I moved around, The edges would also "flop" apart.

It got annoying and I finally put a short stitch in every 12" except for a wider opening at the foot end to insert a pad. I like being able to reach in anywhere to adjust a pad vs. continuous stitching.

SteveToTheO...nice work...how about some daylight pictures now that the sun is up?

I like colorful things! Converse just fit the bill. I made some whoopie slings this morning and attached a ridge line. I just got done taking a nap in the backyard and the cool weather allowed me to try a sleeping bag in there.

    My wife and pup.
