    Rectangle orientation

I have an OES rectangular Cat 8x10 obtained prior to my new hammock life and it appears to be too short to run longways over the hammock as I am looking for the option of more coverage.

Can I run it asym? Im concerned about the tension on the seam in the center of the long side. I think the extra tie-outs (8 total) may be a pain as well.

    Anyone done this? Suggestions.

Thanks for the tolerance for the new guy questions.

I've got a 10 x 10 sil nylon tarp that I hung for the first time last weekend (during record rain). I had the same problem of it not being quite long enough.

Hung it on the diagonal and it worked fine. I used a guyline to hang the tarp and then pulled the corners tight to the guyline witn a couple of little biners attached to Prusik loops I slipped up and down the guy line.

    Diagonal set up

Hang it diagonally (ridge length 12.8 feet) and you will have the coverage you need, and only 4 tie outs, two from the ridgeline to the trees, and one from each corner to the ground on each side of the hammock. It won't look all that different from the stock Hennessy tarp.

What kind of hammock are you using? It should work fine. I recently won a jrb 10x10 at spring mahha and it covers my blackbird fine. I do have to play with it more than I like because its just barely enough, but it works. I've also seen blackbirds (100" ridge lines) under 10' long maccat micros work fine.

I will say I don't see myself ever owning another tarp less than 10'6" in legnth.
