Mike O, I'm thinking about giving the all quilts and hammock stuff together too. My hamock is the most bulky piece of gear I carry (excluding my netless hammocks).

I slept with no UQ sunday in 68 degrees I believe, with no wind it was glorious. Made the fleece UQ and didn't use it. I don't think it'll do much anyway except help with mild wind.

I always have my summer UQ with me. Might not need it, but weather changes and I might need it. I'd rather have it than not have it and be cold. And yes, I've been cold in the middle of a heat wave. Usually it's because I'm camped near the river and mist from the water tends to make me cooler/cold. I do use synthetic UQ's in the summer because of high humidity. Plus, I've found that if I've got the bottom insulation right, all I need on top is a thin silk sheet.
So for me, there is not a "high" temp that I would leave the UQ at home.

I think it is the way to go. I usually leave my sleeping clothes in the hammock as well. Also, by using soft shackles, when I have to set up in the rain nothing comes out of the pack until it is time for bed.

i've always found this to be cumbersome and just reverted back to jamming the quilts into the bottom of my pack loosely. maybe its time to give it another shot, probably easier in milder weather. i DO like your protocol of leaving sleeping clothes zipped in the hmmk though - socks, baselayer, whatever... nice.

also considering no stuff sack for the hmmk ... we'll see.

for now i use my 3 season in the summer - until i get my hands on a summer uq.. though not sure i'll need one in my current climate.

I think I was in death valley yesterday.
temps said it felt like 101 degrees

even at the top of the mntns but standing in a parking lot for a few hrs in uniform felt like more than 101. if I stayed over night (hammock gear was with me) my sleeping spot for the night was going to be a creek
