    DIY Underquilt

Alright, im planning to make my own underquilt, but i hav a few questions. I am making a half-ish size quilt for my hennessy explorer UL a-sym. I am currently drawing up the plans and i plan to post them soon. the demensions are 45" by 54" with 3.2" of loft. I hav the idea of using straps of nylon webbing that are shorter than the fabric to create vertical baffles(i will post a picture soon) Will this create cold spots. If so would staggering the baffles help eliminate cold spots.

    Questions:

Can i use a symmetric UQ for a a-sym hammock

how warm is 3.2" of loft(what seasons)

Is 54" long enough for a half UQ

How much down should i put in each baffle

    Thanks for your help

I don't think that would be a problem - but then I'm not a HH user.

That would get you into winter. (2 inches is about 32 degrees.)

You need to find the volume of each baffle: If the baffle is w inches wide the vol will be V= w x 3.2 x 54 . Then divide this by the fill power of the loft. So, if you use 750 fill wt down, use V/750 ounces in each baffle.

You probably want to increase this by about 10% (overfill).

    Thanks for your help
    You are welcome.

Normally synthetic insulation comes quilted, or in a sheet. Therefore, you wouldn't really need baffles. At least, I didn't put baffles in mine.

    Good Luck!
