Why would you want\need to do that? Just wipe it down each time before you pack it and lay it out to dry when you get home, before putting it away friend. All you should have to do at worst is use a damp cloth to wipe it down with.

But seriously I have read some mild soap and water works ok. You could also get some Nikwax Tech Wash which does not leave a detergent residue.

I usually dont wash a tarp , I had it set up for seam sealing and decided to leave it outside for a couple of days to simulate a hang , at night I would rinse the dust off of it and it ended up with these little white water spots all over it , they are probably all over my other tarps but I CANT SEE THEM , this particular tarp is black so I just took a notion to get them off , I wiped it down with a sponge and they were gone...good to go!!

As far as care is concerend , with any type of nylon . if it has been outside it has some kind of moisture content in it...when I get home I generally hang my hammock as well as my tarp in my sun room and let the ceiling fans work their magic...I leave them there for atleast a day them pack them away....I am really anal about taking care of my gear , 15 yrs in the military made me that way....which is why I dont like water spots....crazy ? yeah, probably a little....but my gear is good to go...LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Birds seem to like my tarp, but I just grab the hose on a hot day (like today) and a sponge. Never used soap at all.
