    How to prussik

What do you use to make the prusik knot? A continuos loop? A soft Shackle? I know the lines need to be different diameter right? Does the prusik need to be bigger or smaller than the RL? Would an Amsteel soft shackle prusik well to zing-it? Or do I need to make some zing-it soft shackles?

What do you use to make the prusik knot? Just about anything you want.
A continuos loop? Yes, I will use a blood knot or figure 8 to tie a peice of cord into a loop.
A soft Shackle? Yes, this would work as well.
I know the lines need to be different diameter right? Generally this is true. It is preferred that the prussik line be smaller in diameter than the RL. If they are the same size, they will still work. At least most of the time.
Does the prusik need to be bigger or smaller than the RL? See above, Prussik smaller than RL is best when possible.
Would an Amsteel soft shackle prusik well to zing-it? Honestly, I have no idea. I have Amsteel but no Zing it to check against. They are both rather slippery from what i have been told so you would have to try it or perhaps others can give you more than I can.
Or do I need to make some zing-it soft shackles? See answer above.

i like soft shackles because they eliminate the need for a hook or biner.

Thanks Flatline. I actually spent an hour looking at that thread making 4 soft shackles before I posted this thread

So you prusik knot the soft shackle and then open them up and attach them to the tie out? I was wondering if i could do that.

There is really not a lot of pressure on the prusic. I use a fishermans knot which is nothing more than a couple of overhand knots back to back.

Yes the line for the prusic works best if less than the RL. I use parachord for my RL and some excess trip tease for the prusic. I use trip tease for my tarp guy lines for obvious reasons.

I just made a batch of continuous loops to tie Prusiks on my guy lines.

I used 2.2 mm Lash it and a Carpet Needle /w a big eye and some pliers.

Starting with 18 inches of line I marked 3 inches on either end to bury. After splicing, the loop comes to be about 5 and 1/2 - 6 inches long.

I used these to tie onto my lines and made a four wrap prusik around the lash it lines.

If you are using these for tarps, or any other location that only has force comming at it from one direction, I suggest a klemheist.
    I ride a recumbent.
I like to HAM it up on the CW.
