Review of the DD hammocks (by Snugpak) Underblanket with Pic's

    Hello,
When I was looking to by a under-blanket I could not find much info on the DD hammocks Snugpak Under-blanket. So Now I have one I though I would get some info out on the web for others. I have never done this before so be gentle with me

The DD hammocks Snugpak Under-blanket is a full size synthetic blanket.

Also the colour in really more green but in the pics it looks more beige I don't know why.

    Weight and Size.

    Weight 3 pounds

size here is a pic of it in its stuff sack next to a 1KG bag of suger. Note that it has been unpacked fluffed up and repacked so this is not the New-Will-Never-Be-that-small-again size.

Here it is laid out in the floor. I am 6 feet tall and it easily covers me.
You can see it has a tunnel each size with a shock cord run though them and two tie outs on each end with shock cord attached thats how it comes.

The tie outs tie around the end each of your hammock like so

and the side shock cords run up to your tree hugger's like so (or in my case raw bolt)

This makes the side of the under-blanket lift up high on each side of you like so. Please excuse the washing

    http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/d...n/DSCN1540.jpg

In the center of the under-blanket they is a section of cord exposed with an adjustment point. You can also here here on of the three additional loops on each side of the blanket which I have never used and a shot of I think cool Logo (I like that it simple and under stated)

a shot of the end of the blanked showing two of the additional loops and how the blanket lifts up and around the hammock.

finaly some were in there is my 7 year old son is showing the blanket ocupied. I was going for the cute shot but he was lost completely in there

This is a very nice full size under-blanket it is a little heavy and large even when packed BUT it is well made of good quality and very warm. Also the price is IMHO good.

    EnglishBob,
Very nice review. I've been wanting to see some detailed pictures of this for a while now. Do you think that there is any way to simplify the hanging suspension? Maybe attaching it directly to the hammocks hanging hardware, like a traditional under quilt? Also, what is the temp. rating on this bad boy?
    Thanks!

    Nice review EnglishBob.
I use a DD under quilt for my indoor permanently setup Traveler hammock and I love it. Though since it is not differentially cut (I think that is what it is called when bottom material is bigger than top material) there is a chance for cold but syndrome.

    thanks guys )

Yes I have seen some folk who use a prussic Knot on they hammock lines to attach the blanket lines. As to cold but syndrome I don't know I live in Spain next to Gibraltar, I can see across the Med to Morocco on a clear day it has not snowed here since the last ice age. If anything I get too hot )

I did a little resarch and found this quote ----

'With a down sleeping bag (comfort range around -4 C) and an extra blanket I was comfy at -5C last winter.'

    thats 23 F

If there is any other pic's / angles etc any would like to see of the blanket just ask.

It fits the Blackbird really fine! Especially when you use a pad in the double layer actually. When you straighten the chord a bit harder on the footbox side of the hammock, you dont have to worry about your feet falling out of the blanket. To get a good fit, i use UQ-Tri-Plates
I will post some pictures later on. i tried it in really bad weather conditions, heavy rain and around 5 degrees celcius.

I tried it in a Hennessy as well, and the rain kept pouring in under the tarp fly. In the morning, the underblanket was completely dry when i packed it up again. I must say, the Snugpak underblanket is perfekt for northern conditions. According to www.huskygard.se, its tested down to -12 celcius.

I've got one of the first run Snugpak ones made originally for a group buy on BCUK before DD started making them.

I've been using it for about 3 years regularly and have taken it down to -8 celcius comfortably with an Alpkit down bag. I find it's pretty good all year round - I just take a different bag depending on weather conditions.
