    Alternative to arrow shaft toogles

I was poking around my local Ace tonight (mostly getting hardware for hammocks ) and I came across these little buggers:

They are risers found near the pvc. I think they are suppose to act like stakes for a sprinkler system but dont quote me on that. The code on the sticker is Riser 12" BG10.

They are easy enough to cut with a good pair of scissors. They are about the same diameter as arrow shafts. They do have some flew in them which is what has me worried. I wanted to go out and test them but it started raining. Ill get to it tomorrow morning. But I could see these as being a decent alternative to the guys who cant get their hands on arrow shafts or pieces of aluminum. They were .68 cents a piece and can be cut in any way. Not to mention for the gram counters these are just as light, if not lighter than my aluminum toggles. If I had a scale I could give you a positive. Anyone else give this a try?

Yeah, sprinkler system parts. I wouldn't be so keen on anything that's flexible. That marlinspike squeezes nice and tight and I'd hate for the tubing to crush in the middle of the night.

I cut up bits of a fiberglass reflector pole from the mailbox aisle and dipped it in plasti-dip (fiberglass slivers hurt) for toggles.

I just got done testing them out. I cant seem to get the photos off the camera but they did collapse under just my weight. Im 125lbs and the kinked like I was 500. To be fair, I used my lighter poly webbing which squeezes tighter on the hitch. I tested three different sizes, 2in, 3in and 4in. The 3in kinked the least and in a last ditch I-have-literally-nothing-else-to-use I could use them. But I wouldnt recommend it to anyone else. I guess a dowel rod could be a cheaper alternative as it probably wont collapse. Oh well, only out a buck and some change.

Has anyone tried the metal electrical wire conduit? I have a section left over from a previous resident and was thinking about just slicing a couple toggles off the end and using it. Would it bend or deform under weight? I tend to hover around the 200lb mark.

If it worked I could even slice the whole thing up and PIF them all out. Just not sure what the weight limit may be.

I found an alternative to arrow shafts, the black nylon? plastic insert to my generic thermal paper roll. They are about 4" long and 1/3" in diam. and fairly thick-walled.

Cool to find uses for things we used to throw away...

I made a set out of the tips of some deer antlers that I had been given. Was going to use the bulk of the antler to make a knife had handle. Will post pics of my toggles in use asap

    Ain't that the truth?!

That said, it's cool also to find alternative, multi-purpose uses for new things. Easton aluminum nano tent stakes weight one-third of an ounce, already have nifty cord attached, are multi-purpose, cheap, and have worked great for me as toggles on my whoopie slings.

You mean EMT conduit? It's made of galvanized steel; I'd think it'd be plenty strong enough.
