Does the Mammajamba work as a tarptent?

Sometimes I hike with a lady friend. And on those occasions, I like to sleep on the ground because....well, you can probably figure out why.

Being on a limited budget, it occurred to me that it might be nice to have a hammock tarp that could also pull double-duty as a tarptent. At first glance, it seems the Mammajamba (with its removable doors) might be just the ticket. Can anybody confirm this? Can the Mammajamba + doors be pitched extremely low to/on the ground, thus becoming a fully-functional tarptent? Or are there other factors I'm not considering?

    Thanks!

I think its doable but IMO the shape is not as conducive to ground set up as a rectangular tarp. I have not tried it though so what do I know

I think most any tarp used for hammocking can be used as a ground shelter.
Take a few practice runs at home in the backyard.

I've set up the superbly low to the ground for the boys before to play in...with the attached doors closed, it looks at much like a tent as any tent I've seen. The only trick is to set the ridge line low enough to get the sides close to the ground. I think the MJ is roughly the same size as the SF...

The MJ looked like an interesting prospect because, unlike a regular ol' rhomboid tarp, the ends of the A-frame can be enclosed with the addition of the removable doors, providing shelter from wind and - especially important in this instance - prying eyes.

If I understand correctly, they're the same tarp, only the Superfly has the doors permanently affixed...
