I just made some soft shackles to replace biners on three hammock setups.

If you don't try due to fear of failure you've already failed due to fear.
A good use of any left over amsteel. I have quite a collection of both soft shackles and nacrabiners of all sorts of sizes.

Hiker - I made some soft shackles based on the dimensions in Opie's pictorial. Is is difficult to make larger soft shackles?
Took you a couple of hours? Mine took me a couple of minutes... I love extra amsteel.

Never can have too many soft shackles. Multi use functional item for more than hammock camping.

It is pretty easy to make larger ones, just increase the length of the bury. Most of mine are "Opie sized". Lately I have been making small ones for suspension on my underquilt.

I've made bigger ones to larkshead onto suspension for bridge hammocks. Its the exact same deal, just larger. I also bury one line down the other to make it "pretty".
What's the trick to making them bigger? Is there a way to do it where you don't need to bury all the way to the end like in the original instructions?
I mean.. the original has the knot tied over the end of the bury. So if you make it longer, you'd need a longer bury as well so it too could be under the knot. This of course means that you need double the extra length. So you want it 4" longer, that's 8" of line. Do I have this correct?
