taking the politics out of this, I noticed that Glen Beck was wearing a DIY 550 cord survival bracelt yesterday on his program......Have these gone National Main Stream?

I have seen where they are being sold for the purpose of supporting troops, their families at home, and disabled vets who don't come home whole. It may have been one of these types of deals that he bought from.
So not necessarily 'main stream' where everyone is wearing them, but you will probably see them on people you might not expect (Glen Beck) because they are supporting our troops.

God created Firemen so cops would have heros.
I haven't seen them in say Target or Walmart yet but you can find them almost anywhere else that sells outdoor gear. At this point if I see one on anyone TV or otherwise I'd assume it was a retail product but that's just my perception, I could be wrong.
They are very mainstream where I'm at. In fact the check out girl in Walmart had a pink and white one on last night.
I have a couple. One of them was made for my by my interpreter, and the thought didn't occur to me that I could use it as survival rope until after I went on this forum and whiteblaze. It was just a bracelet and a gift. To be honest, I'd have to be in really dire straights before I'd even consider undoing it.
They are sold here as a support the troops sort of thing. Much like that yellow plastic livestrong bracelet worked.
Our local paper ran a story about the survival bracelet somewhat recently. Now I see them everywhere. The only Military Surplus shop in town sells them for $10/each.
I saw them at REI the other day, and the local army surplus store has started carrying lots of colors in Paracord, where it used to be just greens and browns. The also added a bucket of the little snap clips up by the register.

That seals it! For $10 I can buy another bag of paracord at my local Army surplus store. If I run a sweatshop and get the kids to crank out a couple of these for every bag of paracord I get ($10 for child labor, and $10 for daddy's new paracord), I would never have to pay for paracord again! I'll set up a work bench in the kids room and... uh... what I mean to say is that making the children work in order to support my paracord habit is morally reprehensible. Yeah, that's the ticket!
You're gonna need a bigger hammock
Glenn Beck and DIY knotwork? I don't think so, I believe he's more into DIY tinfoil.
