OK, the circumstances described shed some light on how you were able to tolerate below freezing with your IX quilt. Direct insolation of the tarp, only a few hours so not down to a sleeping metabolism and you can even run a heat deficit for a while. Good to hear you didn't need to resort to the down around your feet. Love to hear ongoing temperature reports as you use your quilt in the field. Hopefully 40°F/4°C while dressed in pants and a long sleeve shirt is still within reach.
This thing certainly intrigues me. I may just order the materials to make one, and if it doesn't get to the temperatures I need I can add some climashield or other insulation later.
