OK, the circumstances described shed some light on how you were able to tolerate below freezing with your IX quilt. Direct insolation of the tarp, only a few hours so not down to a sleeping metabolism and you can even run a heat deficit for a while. Good to hear you didn't need to resort to the down around your feet. Love to hear ongoing temperature reports as you use your quilt in the field. Hopefully 40°F/4°C while dressed in pants and a long sleeve shirt is still within reach.

This thing certainly intrigues me. I may just order the materials to make one, and if it doesn't get to the temperatures I need I can add some climashield or other insulation later.

    Hey Mike,

One more point worth noting is that the TQ King Tut v2.0 has more air pockets built in it, and the UQ that I used on Mount Royal has also been upgraded by increasing its overall dimensions and by adding a reflective Mylar layer in between the two IX layers (I call it the Reactor because it's so hot).
here is the Reactor UQ link:

Together the UQ & TQ make a dynamic duo!

    Cheers

I like both pieces, nice job! looks like they'll serve you well.
I think I'll do one or both...Thanks for the pics.
Been wondering what to do with IX from an old group buy
