What are the weight guidlines per oz of ripstop nylon

Ok...I'm getting ready to make 3 hammocks. First person is 145 lbs. Will single layer 1.1 oz ripstop nylon be okay? Second person is 210 lbs, will single layer 1.5 oz ripstop nylon work or do I jump to 1.9 oz?
The third person is 260 lbs...will the 1.9 oz single layer ripstop nylon work or do I need to double...or can I get by with 1.5 oz?

We are just starting out, and I'm sure this has been covered some where...but is it okay to use the uncoated ripstop nylon for the hammocks, or should I go ahead and get the coated? What are the advantages of the coated for a hammock?

Thank you everyone in advance for you much needed help!

First, check out this link from Warbonnet.

Second, coated or uncoated will work. Coated will be 1) Heavier and 2) there may be condensation issues. Lots of people use uncoated ripstop.

Enjoy the DIY and we will, of course, need pics.

Coated (silnylon) is only used for surfaces that need water-proofing. Tarps and stuff sacks are an example. Your hammock should be breathable so just use 1.1-1.9 ripstop uncoated.

The lighter the material is, the more comfy it is. 1.1 can hold up to 200 lbs safely.

    Smile Thank you

Good info guys! Thank you. How I did not run into that with all my information overload is beyond me. I will be placing an order hopefully tomorrow for my materials. The best price I found was from diygearsupply, are there any better ones out there?
    Thanks again

DIY Gear supply is great. My last 2 hammocks are made from his materials.

The camo is really wide, and makes a very comfortable hammock, where the OD green is also excellent, and has a softer feel.

I have a Single Layer 1.1 Olive green hammock, and a double 1.1 camo hammock made from those materials. I'm 210#, and they both hold me quite well.

If weight isn't a concern, I'd go with the camo for the extra width. If you're counting grams, the OD green is great, too.

His tech-line makes a great ridgeline (mine's adjustable -- whoopie sling style). and if you're integrating bugnets, his #3 zippers are as cheap as I've found anywhere, and work great. Don't forget webbing for tree straps!

Let us know how they turn out.

I was under the impression that the coated nylon was DWR (Durable Water Resistant) and that silnylon was nylon that is actually impregrated with silicon rather than coated. I have used DWR as an outer shell to quilts, silnylon for tarps and such and uncoated for surfaces not exposed to the elements. Maybe I got it wrong, but can someone can set me straight on it?

    Happy Trails...

FWIW, my DIY hammock was made from JoAnn's Farbic ripstop (appears to be 1.9) and holds my ~290lbs fine so far. My DIY is single layer.

Hey, I know this is an old post, but it came up in a google search for me and the Warbonnet link to the hammock guide has changed so I'm reposting it:
