Scott; i can't remember if you had been there before but if not take some time at the end of your trip to visit Malign Canyon, that is if there isn't a whole lot of tourists.

I've been there a couple of times. Great place to spend a few hours wandering from "bridge to bridge".

Just got a response back from a Park rep and they say I can use the hammock provided it hangs over a designated tent spot. It's a start...and of course I pointed him in the direction of hammockforums for education purposes!! My goal is to hang, but I will bring my t**t just in case.

Wow, just dawned on me: Maligne Lake! As in, Canadian Rockies not far from Lake Louise! What a beautiful place. Maybe the most beautiful mountain scenery I have seen, and I have seen some for sure! Lucky man, hanging out there!

We had a similar discussion concerning hammocks in provincial parks here in Ontario. I found that if you take the time explain that hammocking can be virtually no-trace, providing you use tree straps, that they were okay with the idea. I was told that they encourage people to use the tent pads becuase they don't want people clearing the site of vegetation just for a fresh spot to put the hammock. If they can come to understand that you'd likely be swinging above any groundcover, then you might be ok.

That being said, we were also told that it came down to the discretion of the ranger on the site. If you've already been given guidelines, then it might be wise to follow them. Still try to bring them around, but play by their rules.
