was wanting to go to Gila Wilderness maybe in the next couple of weeks.
But not sure what to expect with the weather.
Anybody know what kind of temps ?
is it real humid like Texas ?
is it a bad bug season?

Louie, I was out there mid-summer several years ago, and as I recall, it was quite pleasant...high and dry. Here's a link to the Silver City wx, which should give you a pretty good idea of current and forecast conditions:

louie,
Be sure to check with the Forest Service for closures prior to traveling. They have had some significant fires ,as we have, and I'm not sure of the current status.

Just spoke to my Grandmother who lives in the actual town of Gila NM. which is 25 miles NW of Silver City. She said it's hot and dry. They haven't had rain in quite a while and the snowpack was light this winter. Very little water in the Gila river itself.
Apparently there was a fire in the Gila Wilderness up near the cliff dwellings. Got very smokey in that area for a few days. Don't know if the FS put the fire out yet or not.
I'll be heading that way in a couple weeks myself. Probably a bit more to the west, near Glenwood or Reserve.
Like others have said, check with the local Forest Service office.

Have you considered the Pecos Wilderness instead? All reports I've gotten from folks say the drought has really taken a hit on Gila, West TX as well. Fire danger is extreme, with some closings I believe, although the link Tao gave should tell you. I do know there's still snow at 10K in areas if the Pecos, and while the fire danger is high in the NC area, several of the wilderness areas are not included in the fire ban.
As far as TX, yet it's hot, I checked the temp coming from the tap a minute ago and it was 80 degrees! I was all packed and ready to head to NM on Sat. but started having weird things going on with my neck. Had an MRI yesterday and won't know anything til Fri
Have fun what every you do!
