A Drippy Mambajamba?

Hey folks,
I went on a canoe trip a couple weeks ago & one evening it rained reall heavy. I mean REALLY heavy.
I noticed while munch on my dinner under my Mamba' that miniscule droplettes of water would splatter otu on the underside whereever a raindrop hit it. I assume this isn't normal but am apt to chalk it up to user error rather than product. Is it possible I had my tarp pulled out too tight & that caused this? I didn't notice it being exceptionally tight but then I was pretty tired after being on the river all day.

I also had some dripping from the peak of the tarp but I think that was because I strung with the line under the tarp rather than over it & had some capillary issues. Again user error.

Any thoughts?

one thing that might have caused this was your ridge line under your tarp...
all the water can run down under your tarp then run down your tarp...
also site location could have had a part in this....
also how old is the tarp?
i know some ppl said after alot of use tarps can break down and leak through.
not saying this is it...but it could be a part of it

also in a driving rain you want your sides tied down steep so water can't puddle on your tarp... this will cause what you are talking about also

thats about all i can think off of the top of my head

The tarp is about a year old & was pitched low & at a pretty steep angle (maybe 50*?). Water definitely was running off it & not pooling.
The dripping I certainly attribute to the lack of drip lines while having the ridgeline stung under the tarp but figured I'd throw out there. I know the water wasn't running down sides from ridgeline as I was watching it "splatter" inside as it hit the tarp.
It wasn't getting on my hammock tho' just on me if I stoof near it. This is what got my attention in the first place.

Silnylon sometimes does what is called "misting".......
I have had water run in on an under the tarp ridgeline. You can add drip strings or re-rig.

+1 on the "misting" Shug mentioned. I've experienced it firsthand with my SF. I'm pretty sure I mentioned it in a trip report or something, but it was DRIVING rain. Make sure to seal those panel pulls if you got em...

I had similar issues with my Superfly; quite a bit of water got on my hammock. I used to run the ridgeline under the tarp. I couldn't work out where the water was coming from, but ever since I started running the ridgeline over the tarp, I've had 0 issues. Might not be your problem, but worth a try. I don't think that I ever had misting issues.

Thanks for the reply folks. A lot of what was said makes sense. After I noticed I strung the tarp with the ridgeline wrong I muttered, "ah crap" but just moved on. Once it started raining well it was too late. The rain was furious & lasted well over 14 hrs without relent.

@Shug, did some Googlefu regarding silny misting & it makes sense I'll keep it in mind, tnx buddy!

I plan to be modifying my tarp setup so that should ensure a under the ridgeline string up each time.

@talo166 try paddling 18 miles negotiating 2+ technical rapid all day with 10 more in front of you then see how much you wanna man up when it's time for bed

Thanks again folks, I'm looking forward to my next trip & some driving rain & see what happens. As an aside, a buddy has same tarp etc & experienced no misting... weird.
