Set up my Kelty Noah 12, need opinions with pictures.

First off here's pictures of it set up right now as this is posted.

    http://s731.photobucket.com/albums/w...and%20Shelter/

So I bought a Kelly Noah 12, 12' x 12' tarp after I debated between the nine and twelve. Well I'm not sure anymore. As you see It's set up for my Eno double nest deluxe and it fits it great in a square shape, but I originally bought it for diamond set up, well It's way to big.. In diamond shape one tip touching one of the trees and heading to the other it pass the truck by a few feet. The trees are about 13' apart so it should give you an idea. So should I keep the 12 or get a 9? I did like that the 12 can be converted into a almost Winter hammock shelter with both ends closed off, almost like a A frame tent with ends. I know I can rig plenty of other shelters using this tarp due to It's size but is the 9 still a better choice? I do have a British Basha "Basher" tarp when we were buying them from Sportsmans Guide it hardly covers my hammock in square mode but maybe in diamond it'll barely work. So is my Basha close enough to the Noah so I shouldn't get it or should I just use this. Your thoughts please, any input would be great.

P.S. This is also going to be asked on Zombie Squad forums as well because I'd like their opinion as well, I know some of you belong to both.

You could always cut the corners off the diamond and have a hex tarp... depending on your skill with a thread injector.

No real problem there Skull Hide.

If you take a look at the photo, there are three tie-outs along the ridgeline. If the tarp is too long as a diamond, use one of the tie-outs closer to the end as the end instead of the actual end. That should reduce the length by about 5 feet or so making your 16+ foot ridgeline a more manageable 11 foot or so. The slack on the end can be rolled up or just let it droop as a bit of an awning. No cutting or sewing needed, and it remains able to be set up as a square when desired.

Also, if the sides of the diamond are too wide, there is a tie-out just above it on the side. Using that will reduce the width by a few feet as well.

You'll have to play with it some, but with the number of tie-outs on that tarp there are tons of options for setting it up.

I have a 9' Noah, and I occasionally hang it as "hex" by using the two tie-outs above the end on the sides letting the left over triangle droop but having a hex shaped tarp.

With the 12' you can also hang it like the "baker hut" mode on a JRB tarp as well.

In my limited opinion, I love my Kelty 12. It's built like a tank and I've had it in some pretty good winds and down to 13 degrees (used the winter-mode setup, see pic below). I haven't hung it on the diagonal because you need trees that are about 3 acres apart. I did see it hung diagonally at a group hang and it is a very nice setup.

I happen to also have an OES MacCat Standard that is smaller so this, in essence takes the place of the purposes of the Kelty 9. I personally would tweak both of the tarps and dial them in to what I needed. Practice setting it up in different ways again and again. No need to purchase a third tarp when you can work with the two that you have. Well, there's always a need to buy more gear, but I don't want to get too off topic

That was an 11' DIY gathered end. It fit without issue.

I have the same Noah 12. It's a beast. Very strong and versatile. Big enough to make a closed end shelter if you need it.
