    Question Modified Bug Sock

I'm in the process of making a new bug net based on the SGT Rock bug sock v. 3.1 and was wondering if anyone thought about adding a zipper for ease of entry/exit?

I'm making out of no-see-um from Quest, so I'm not worried about it being delicate or too heavy. I love the design because unlike my current Hammock Bliss net you can put an underquilt on before putting on the net instead of having to fight the quilt into the net.

Do you think that adding a zipper is a "win", or is the bug sock so easy to work as is that it doesn't need it?

I just put together a bug sock. I went for the no zipper design. It is simple to use and much easier than adding a zipper. I use a light sock in the winter for warmth and don't recall it being a problem to open and close.

Having said that, my main hammock has a sewn in bug net (with zipper, of course.) Is you zipper running vertically? I would have thought horizontally would make more sense?

If you add a zipper to the netting, you might want to consider first attaching the zipper to strips of solid material and then attaching the zipper + solid material to the netting.

My first thought was a horizontal zipper as well, but I couldn't figure out a good way to keep it aligned with the hammock. This is the bug net I have now -

I like most of the things about this design except that you have to put the bug net on first then wrestle everything else (underquilt, top quilt, etc) through the opening. SGT Rock's design looks like it would be much easier to slide over an underquilt.

I have the same style net (with the same limitations) as yours. I do like the vertical zipper because it is always within easy reach.

I have thought about the bug sock style, but my hammocks are long and I am not. It would be difficult for me to reach the drawstring to close/open it.

I like your idea of adding the zipper to get the best of both styles. Thanks.
