    howdy from Kansas

    Hi folks,

well I just made my first DIY gathered end hammock and I've tested it out at the local park but I'm looking forward to field testing it soon.

I'm from Wisconsin and just moved to Kansas and am looking forward to doing some hammock camping.

Dale Gribble: I'm thinking, "new hammock." For me, laying and swaying in a hammock is like a steady morphine drip without the risk of renal failure.

Randy : yea but just remember yer roots and where ya come from....you got Hennessy in yer blood son......

Welcome from CA! Gotta love the diy gathered end. Lots of friendly folks just itching to help a hanger out. Hope to hear more from you as you get out into the Kansas wilds.
You're gonna need a bigger hammock

Ahhhh, Junk Town. I've been there a couple times but mostly drove through. Grew up in Topeka and went to school in Salina. One of my favorite B-52 stories (watched B-52 I was never in the military) was I had just climbed up the hill coming out of Junktown heading home for the weekend, it was a real low ceiling and I was on the flats on the other side. My Volkswagon started vibrating and I wondered what I'd run over, was I having a blowout, What? It got louder but wasn't right. Then a B-52 dropped out of the cloud deck and leveled off, couldn't have been more then 200 feet and he was COOOKING! I think they were doing a run on the Ft. I don't know but it was low, fast and loud enough to drown out the machinations of a VW Bug doing 65 mph.

    Kansas City area now.

There use to be B-52 low bomb runs from Texas to the Dakota's. They use to go by just west of town every day. You could see the color of the pilots helmet sometimes.
I also lived in that area, went to school at KSU in Manhattan. Lived in Chapman and Abilene.
You are only 3 or 4 hours from a fall hang at Indian Cave State park in Nebraska.

When I was much, much younger, my aunt lived outside of Salina. Her house sat up on one of about 4 hills in the area; no trees of course. Anyway, there was a USAF bombing range not far away. They didn't *usually* drop live ordinance, but every now and again there would be a massive BOOM and you could watch plates and glasses rattle across the countertops. It was fun to sit on the roof of the house and watch the B-52s and F-4s go on their attack runs. I guess I do have a few fond memories of Kansas after all.
