I confess I have not been following this thread so if this has already been covered please excuse me. In so far as things to clarify.. I think it would be useful to have a graphic to follow the various seams and hems that are commonly used. I've covered them in my We Don't Sew series and there are an abundance of other resources on the web. But video is hard to follow when you are trying to get something down and the forums don't really lend themselves to high quality graphics. Not to take anything away from the graphics posted by some of our fine artists. But to be fair, they can get lost in the flood of posts. The card for the hanging basics is a great resource to hand out. Much more useful, IMO, than having to look it up all the time, even as a sticky.

Just a thought in response to your invitation to contribute.

I'd also like to do a few sheets better explaining necessary skills to build gear.
How to roll a hem....to keep from fraying
How to attach gros grain....for a finished look. (Hint- Iron the gros grain in half)
How to rip a seam...for mistakes
How to apply seam sealer...or a DIY silicone treatment....for waterproofing
    How to make a pack?
What about the tarps from your original store?? I have cloned several and you already have the dimensions
My memory's not as sharp as it used to be. Also, my memory's not as sharp as it used to be.

Or maybe some that show the simpler patterns we use for making some of the more common DIY gear, perhaps with beginners vs. advanced versions? Great work.

Thanks Rev, great idea. I started one for roll hem / drawcord channel, flat-felled seam (really the modified one that's a fold-over french seam), and binding grossgrain. Also a how-to for zipper installation.

What else do we use? Maybe some stitch patterns for webbing and whatnot....

Great ideas. I do plan to offer a couple tarp patterns with DIY instructions. And the pack thing is coming along as well - that one will be a multi-pager.

    Sounds good. Ideas?

I'll be doing at least two more bug nets (one a cocoon). Probably tarp/hammock tubes. Tree webbing. Splicing skills. Also some non-hammock specific items, but stuff hammockers use on occasion. A bivy-sack. Alcohol stove & windscreen. Derek's already done a really great wood gas stove illustration, so I won't bother with that.

That's the plan. I'll put them all in order in a single PDF when complete'ish (there will always be more and more to add...).

Speaking from recent experience (ahemm) ....

How about a sheet to use to help justify that recent gear purchase to the significant other. I'm thinking flowchart with lots of pictures and prompts. I sure could have used that one yesterday (today and probable for next few weeks).

The process is quick clear and simple if the right question gets asked....

"How many "fill in the blank" do you need?"

Ans: Just one more... the same as your "fill in blank" (purses, hats, shoes, cookbooks, earrings... what ever floats her boat).

Oh... then run and duck. The hurled whatever just might miss you......

and here I thought this topic was gonna be something to do with making custom made "sheets" for my hammock

I don't know if this is something anyone else would want but what about having something "official" looking logo at the very top and then having something in there about how hanging using these methods are LNT . This way when the ranger comes by and tells you that you gotta remove your hammock from his trees, you can show him your "official" papers proving it's OK.

(I'm not trying to get anything started here or go off topic either)
and I really like all the info that you've got on these sheets. Hey, maybe I could print this out on silk and use as a bandana.
