Spooky Hanging

Hi All
Following from this thread Hammocks over haunted Browning Hill. I was wondering what was the most spookiest place you have ever hung in, (perceived or real, documented).
I hope to read of some real scary places

Blood Mountain Georgia on a trail called Slaughter Creek Trail.
My first solo overniter. Right around Halloween time. Right after I set-up, I heard some screeching noise that scared me.

Never did find out what exactly it was. An Indian ghost perhaps.
Then a deer that came real close would not quit starring at me.

Last fall in NJ somewhere. I was stealth camping next to my hiking partner who was in his tent. We both woke up around 4 or so in the morning to one of the strangest sounds I have heard in the woods. I only vaguely remember the sound. But it sounded like huffing and stumping, along with other related noises. Did I mention it was coming from the direction of my foodbags? Needless to say I think we both slept 30 minutes the rest of the night.

A funny side story. This happened a couple times. I would hang my pack on the webbing going to the tree. Not really thinking about it, I would just snap one of the buckles over it and forget about it. Laying in the hammock hours later it felt like something was crawling in my hammock or moving it. Well yeah, I jumped out and freaked out. I learned that a weight moving over the webbing feels like something messing with you. Really funny after the fact.

I took my wife and niece to my grandmother's farm to camp this summer. My wife and niece slept in my tent and I stayed in the hammock. In the middle of the night we all heard what sounded like a chorus cackling laughs, very high pitched and very spooky, sorta like a bunch of witches. It scared the s**t out of my wife and 13 year old niece and unnerved me a little bit. I have heard the same sound a couple of times since then while camping by myself. I think it's a pack of coyotes, or at least that''s what I'm telling myself.

AH*: My back yard, the first time a squirrel ran along my ridgeline.

I'm not sure who was more startled, me when he ran along the new shortcut, or him when I, less than 12" below him,,,, "made my presence known".

No, I didn't scream, but I did yell a bit.
Since then I barely stir when he does it.

BH**: I was about 1 mile N of Flint Mt. Shelter, I was awakened to some VERY BRIGHT flashes, much like strobes, but these had to be 200' long 10,000,000,000 watt strobes. They were way to bright and WHITE to be lightning, and there was no noise. No thunder, No "pop" like a strobe makes, NO NOISE! Even the animals were quiet. I figure they were as freaked as I was.
The conversation all the next day as hikers passed was "SO, were you abducted too?". I was glad I wasn't the only one to see those lights, whatever they were.

The only spooking I've received while hammocking was when I heard trees or limbs fall. The supernatural seems to studiously avoid me, except in books.

While I have been waiting at work today to hear more stories from people here. I remembered a story that was scary for a short time then went to a felling of stupidity to the point of comedy. Me and one of my friends were going on our first backpacking trip with a ton of new and barrowed gear that we were pumped about trying to use. We picked our campsite (which turned out to be the worst one we could have chosen), a field with tall grass everywhere. Thinking that it was going to be nice to sleep on the soft grass (back in my ground dweller days), this site seemed perfect. Through not being able to get a fire lit in the tall wet grass, breaking our barrowed water filter, and forgetting some of the food, we decided to pack out in the dark. This is where the fun started. As we began to walk out, we heard these low gutteral rumblings. As we got closer, we hear rustling in the trees and bushes. We were freaking out. We were in northwest arkansas, and what few bears were in the area, would be just coming out of hibernation. Fear began to set in as we heard a very loud and continuous rustling in the trees above us. As it got closer and closer we realized that it was....

Ba-na-Na-na

A bunch of turkeys that had took up residence in one of the nearby trees for the night flying off because we had scared them. I know, very unexciting, but it was pretty scary at the time.

now that's got me laughing

a couple years ago a friend & i went to trail days (my 1st time) & to camp we drove back out of town several miles to a camp site right beside the road that we had seen on the way in.

there were rowdys riding up & down the road through the night & there was some kind of road forking off going down into the woods behind us.

in the middle of the night i woke to see a couple sets of headlights down in the woods just below us, pointing toward us!

several rednecks were hollering at us w/ bad intent!

i knew they were moving in on us!!! so i did the only thing i knew to do in that fearful moment... i swung from my hammock, landing on two feet running toward them as hard as i could, screaming a war cry as i rushed toward the headlights!!!

then i really woke up... & asked my friend if he herd me holler
