I say grab a $20 WM special one person tent...set it up, then hang your hammock next to it and sleep comfy.

Doubt anyone will say a word to you that way.

After a lengthy phone conservation, there is NO PROBLEM with hanging a hammock of ANY KIND. You are allowed to take afternoon naps in one but you CANNOT USE ONE TO SLEEP IN AT NIGHT. I suspect that this is an interpretation of the rules by this particular park manager. I am meeting with her Monday to demonstrate our type of hammock camping. I imagine it is all about a lack of understanding hammock camping by the officials. I sure hope there are some good trees at the State Building!

    Advocacy

After seeing several threads illustrating the ignorance of policy makers and enforcers, perhaps a hammock camping advocacy group is a good idea.

    Hammocks
    Are
    No trace
    Gear

...or something like that. Seems like everyone has a non-profit these days. I've done consulting work for a few myself. If people are serious about having rights equal to other campers, and LNT education, then why the heck not? Get donations from the gear makers, partner with a few (sane) enviro groups, and poof, 501(c)3
Ignorance is temporary. Stupid is forever...

I'm not high maintenance! I'm simply low tolerance.

Sounds like fun, count me in too.

    Those who can, DO!
    Those who can't, Teach.
Those who are clueless, make the rules.
The further you get from knowing ANYTHING about the subject, the more likely you are to have the power to enforce your rules. And the harder it is to challenge your "Rules".

Sadly, it's a fact of life. Case in point: I drive an ambulance that is REQUIRED by law to carry a 5 Lb sledge hammer & a crow bar "For use in vehicle extrication". Ive been doing EMS just shy of 30 years & have NEVER even seen their use demonstrated. For vehicle extraction we just use the "Jaws of life" (a copyrighted name BTW) or similar product. I can open a car in about 30 - 60 seconds once set up. Yet, the (Indiana) law requiring the hammer & pry bar is still in affect, & will be in the foreseeable future. The law makers haven't had to get into a damaged car for rescue in over 30 years, IF they ever did (Which I doubt), yet,,,,,,,

Please be careful when evangelizing the use of hammocks or forcing clarification of rules about the use of hammocks. Unless you are fairly certain about the outcome of a decision in your favor, you may set in stone a ruling against you that may have remained a debatable allowance.

It amazes me that their are no pedestrians, and only three cars on the street, two of which seem to be parked. Strange, almost eery.

Once the word of hammocks gets out more I bet the rules will change. As someone mentioned earlier the rules were most likely written for those rope hammock ones you lay in the backyard with...not these hammock shelters.
