My New DIY Hammock: The Kayak

    Hello All

I would like to first thank everyone who made this hammock possible Joanne Fabrics, diygearsupply.com, CreativeKayt, JohnSawyer, headchange4you, Redden Marine and everyone else who posted links that I followed to get my inspiration and DIY skills. Also I would like to thank Bat who dubbed my hammock "The Kayak."

I started out with headchange4you's hennesy instructions. I couldn't get the whipping right so I went with the Blackbird whipping style.

When I changed from headchange4you's instructions I decided I liked the idea of some of the top sewn together but wanted something to sew the zipper around better so went with a Triangle type shape sewn in spot cut on the bias for maximum stretchability. It has a warbonnet style shelf with instructions inspired by creativeKayt (thank you). Thank you sclittlefield for the help with my order and information about the limitations of coil zippers. You kind of inspired the netting that tucked away into the shelf.

The ripstop came from Joanne Fabrics. The zipper, No See Um netting and shock cord from diygearsupply.com.

And without further ado "The Kayak"

That looks great! I am inspired by the way you handled the bugnet at the top and bottom. Could you post another shot or two of the head/foot end triangles so I can see how you did it?

Triangle part and bishop bag I threw together.

Closer look at the triangle part. Will post a better pic when I get off work.

Also the bishop bag I made for it.

Also the pattern used to make the triangle at the top. The sides are 13.5 Inches long and the distance between the points is 8.5 inches wide

Very nice. How much sewing on the tie out attachments? I am always afraid of tearouts if I sewed them on like that.
