There are a couple options out there.

I use a long whoopie sling run through the middle of the channel ends on my hammock. Makes it difficult to adjust after laying in because everything get's cinched down pretty tight, but once you have it adjusted just right just set it and forget it.

Some people use rings that connects the hammock, suspension, and ridgeline together. Sometimes the suspension line is used as the ridgeline with the rings as in the Single Line Suspension

I'll have to check all that out... I do have about 50' of amsteel on the way and other rings, clips, etc...

I would make a finished length of 10'-6" to 11'-0" with the channel end.

Having the channel gives you the choice to use it or to whip the ends for fine tuning the lay.

just started my project.... The gutterman bulky nylon is giving me trouble.... it seems to fray very very easy...

I think I am just going to have to go with some poly... anyone else had this problem with gutterman?

luckily my wife had some black poly thread... I did a simple hand break test to compare... The Gutterman seems the break much easier and almost like you can feel every individual small strand tearing... the poly seemed more like a solid pop and took slightly more effort to break...

Nylon is not what you want.

I'm not sure what all Joann's carries, but I didn't find the Gutermann Mara 70 there. It has become my favorite thread for most projects. It couldn't be considered "bulky".
