After Randy posted this, I bought one, and can give it two thumbs up. Not for backpackers/gram weenies, but if you're car camping, it's da bomb.

I saw on thread (I think it was Bradley's, but I don't recall) where somebody had setup a 9v battery on a 3" computer fan... You'd kill the battery overnight...

Some 12v computer fans will run on 6V, so 4-AA's would power it for some time... There are lots of fan sizes: from 1.57" square, to 5.5". From what I have laying about, the 3" fans seem to do the best on a 9v battery, but again, they won't last a day. I'm guessing that 4-AA's would last 24 hours or maybe longer... depending on the fan... The lower the voltage you can get these to run, the quieter they'll be... at 9v, one of the two 3" fans I have is a bit whiny... like having an oversized mosquito buzzing around.

Those fans are 6 bucks in the house fan section at Walmart.
They use 2 D cell batterys.
I have slept out side in my hammock for the last 14 days and have only used 2 sets of batterys. running it all night on low.

I pulled a small fan out of a computer tower last week before a trip I had planned. I tested it for life and it ran 13 hours on a single 9 volt battery. It had a third wire in addition to the +/- wires, so I used that to make a loop. I attached that loop to my ridge line with some velcro. I then attached the 9 volt to my ridge line with velcro. It ended up being a little cooler than I anticipated that night, so I didn't really use it, but in my quick test while it was still warm out it really made a difference. Total package with battery was 3.5 ounces. I don't have any pics of it specifically, but you can sort of make it out if you look really close in this picture.

For the money, it's worth a try.

I have the larger O2 cool with the remote battery pack that holds 8 D cells , and i usually get around 8 nights out of a set of batteries.

I found the O2 Cool 2 D Batter fan, and will try this out during camp. You never know, I could be the envy of everyone out there.
