Does a silk liner do anything?

I am hiking in a few weekends and it will be my first time out in a hammock (BB 1.0 DL). The temps should be above 70 the whole time. I have a Sea to Summit Silk Sleeping Bag Liner and was wondering if anyone has ever used one of those by itself. They advertise using it by itself in the summer, but does it actually provide warmth? My plan is to keep this trip pretty light, so I'm trying to decide if I need my 1.5 pound summer bag or not...

I use one for traveling overseas ... some Chinese hotels are ... well sketchy at best. I've noticed that they're pretty good for warmer weather as a wee bit of cover ... and they seem to give me 5 to 10 degrees perceived warmth in the winter. Course' that's how it feels to me. I've only used in a hammock twice ... in summer and it was enough for me.

For traveling they're darn easy to wash out in a sink and dry quickly ... so that's a plus for my needs.

They fall apart. Or at least my Sea to Summit one did. Total waste of money if you're not very careful with it.

Hmm ... just the opposite for me ... Sea to Summit ... going on 2 years carrying with me about half the year in hotels ... still going strong ... only getting a bit thin in places. Haven't even had a seam come apart. But I do hand wash it in a sink ... nothing else

If it is truly Summer, meaning I would be sleeping under just a sheet at home, I do not see why my silk liner would be any different in the field. My own 3 season bag weighs only 18 oz while my silk liner weighs 5 oz. Not sure what the actual temp rating is, but claims of 5-10* seem about right.

I've used one in cooler weather to supplement my regular insulation, and I've used one in hot weather in lieu of a TQ/Sleeping Bag.

I find the lack of a zipper makes getting into the liner when in the hammock a struggle. Ditto with the 5-10 degrees of additional warmth.

You'll also definitely end up with a wedgy after trying to get in it while lying in a hammock. That's probably why mine fell apart -all the thrashing about to remove wedgies.

When tenting I have used a silk liner inside my sleeping bag mostly to keep the bag clean. I really don't know how much warmth it adds.

Same experience & use. Liner by itself is fine for the warm summer nights where sleeping without any cover is a bit on the borderline of cool. The high breathability is nice for those bit cool & humid "tropical" nights.
