It's freakin' awesome!!!! I picked up a 3" paring knife from Harbor Freight on sale for $8.

I'd actually thought about floral wire and the idea vanished from my head. Guess I'll make another trip to Joann's for that and the loop turner. I like that, too.

The straight section is 9 1/4". You can easily stack 20" of 7/64" amsteel blue on it. More than enough for the splices we use.

I usually taper 1/8 and 7/64 amsteel before I pull it into the bury. It fits in the hook and pulls better that way.

Have used floral wire and the braided fishing leader like oldgringo noted and found the braided wire to be easier to work with. Helps if you crimp it with pliers at the point you fold it in half first so the "tip" is less rounded.

The Dritz Loop Puller works great on 7/64".

Whenever I can't manage to cut something, it's only a matter of time before the blowtorch comes out.

I used electric fence wire for my fid. Took about 24", folded it in half. Twisted it to make it stronger, Works like a charm.

Late to the thread, but I have had good luck

cutting Amsteel with a pair of Fiskars scissors that came with a cover that has a built-in ceramic sharpening rod. A couple of swipes and the AMsteel cuts cleanly.

ANd the floral wire works great!
