    Tarp Tie-out Help - What's the story?

I'm adding tie-outs to my diy tarp. Large hex 70d Coated Ripstop with a rolled hem.

I thought I'd ad a hemmed piece of ripstop to the corner and then sew the loop to the sandwich in one of these ways.

    Straight up

I've also seen side by side

Or one turn sewn on the hem

I've seen these and other methods used. I'd like to keep it simple but I don't want to weaken the tarp...

I would probably put them on like you have in the first picture, but flip one side over so the loop stays open on its own to make it easier to attach your rigging. my 2cents.

I agree about the 1st picture. That's how I plan to do mine.

actually I tend to go with #3, which directs the pull forces along the hemmed edges...since I also wrap my hems over a GG ribbon, it pulls on that rather than the fabric directly.
Hope that helps, KM(who wants to go outside....but by the time I get off work, it is way hot )

What I did on mine was the same as your first picture. However, I sandwiched my tarp in between the gross grain so I had a piece on each side. It's been working great for me so far. Good luck!

Lol I did number 3, but with 1 leg under the tarp, and no top ripstop piece. Looks like you can't go wrong.

I did mine side by side, my thought process being that it spreads the load over a greater area?

    Good luck,

    Haha so it's settled then...

Can't we all just get along?

I'm kind of tempted to do #3 without the patch. My hem is tripled, (or is that trebled?) so it's probably the strongest element in the picture.

And those patches are kind of a pita to make.

Any more opinions? It's not like we have a consensus yet...

I'll throw a wrench in on you...

I did my GuideGear tarp like #1. -- no issues.

My minimalist tarp, I sewed the end loops almost like your last pic:

I used the Grosgrain like a regular binding, but instead of looping it like you did, I folded back the corner of the tarp and left the tie-out loop section unsewn... It's hard to describe, I'll try to get a pic tonight. Basically, the GG surrounds the edge, and is sewn down each rolled hem, with a 1" gap in the middle, and the GG was left long enough to make a nice sized loop...

John, you mean something like this? It's nice and simple alright..

If this is what you mean, how has it held up?
