    Prussik Knot

I was curious how to tie a prussik knot so it has a loop to attach a carabiner too. I have seen many videos and instructions on how to do a regular one where the two ends of the rope are sticking out, but I need that loop. I could just tie the two ends, but if possible I would rather have the cleaner look.

    Any pointers/advice is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks

Let me get this right... you just want to clip a carabiner to a prussik that is tied around a rope?
In climbing it is typical to tie a loop out of static line using a double fisherman's knot. That loop is prussiked to the rope and a biner clips in the loop of line that remains.

In the hammocking world it seems most people are working with slippery lines like Amsteel, which are pretty slippery and tough to tie knots. The solution is to splice a continuous loop. This loop is then tied to the rope with a standard prussik just like the fisherman's knot loop.

Perfect, thank you very much folks! I want to attach a Peak bag to my hammock and on the 2QZQ website they stated prussik with a biner is the best way. Thanks again folks.

Noob Questions Concerning Prussik Knot Use.

Is there an ideal size closed loop for a prussik knot to place on a ridgeline for a 9' by 12' tarp?

Would the loop be smaller for smaller and lighter tarps using ridgeline tensioning?

Is there an ideal tag distance and angle from the prussik knot to whatever is being tensioned?

I will be using 350# 3mm paracord for my ridgeline and prussik loops on both my 9' by 12' (too small of cord to use?) tarp, and sometimes on 2 different 5' x 7' tarps either singly or in tandem.

If I had different sized cords I would probably need different sized loops but I am not entirely sure. For now, I will be using the same size cords for ridgeline and loops.

    Thanks for any answers.

The reason I would like to know, is it would be nice to have a general sized loop in mind before just cutting up some of my good cord and finding out I cut it too small and end up wasting it.
"What's that big funny looking banana thing hanging over there by those two trees?" said little Billy Bear to his mama. "I think it is called a pinata and it is filled with goodies." she replied. "You must bap it around first and then tear it open to find out what wonderful tasty things it holds for us tonight, little Billy. Let us go play with it now." she continued.

The loop size doesn't really matter. Just as long as it's enough for you to work with. I am using approx 4" diameter loops with 1.7 mm Zing It line for my tarp prussiks. My ridge line is 2.2 mm Zing It.

Many folks here are likely to warn against using para cord. It's not the strength at issue, it's the stretch. You should be able to make it work but you might find you have to retighten your lines after a while.

Para cord is stretchy and holds water when wet, but it will get the job done, I actually like the stretchy aspect of it b/c its easier to pull tight with a truckers hitch,zing-it etc basically just stops when you get the slack out and its hard to get as tight as para cord.. Now back to your question. 305# should be fine, and since you're gonna have to tie your loops (vs. splice) I would start off with a 15" -20" piece of chord, that should give you room for knots and still have a reasonable amount of cord left for the loop. Big fan of the Zeppelin bend for making loops, quick and easy, very secure, and easy to untie if you need to.
    Good luck,
