    Stretch in braided Mason's Line?

I almost have all of my pieces together! One of the last things I need to decide is whether to put Mason's Line (braided, 100% Nylon) or 2.2mm Zing it on my Big Daddy Sil tarp as guy lines. The ridgeline is Zing-It, but it seems like that would be overkill for the guyouts... My question is, does braided Mason's line stretch in the rain like paracord does, or does its construction somehow lessen the stretch?

I think it does. Is that the consensus you were looking for?

With extensive use of mason's line over 25 years in construction, I can assure you it has considerable stretch. This probably wouldn't be much of an issue in the short lengths used for guy lines.

The deciding factor for me was that mason's line always got tangled for me and 2.2 Zing It rarely does.

Did I mention that I use 2.2 Zing It?

It'll stretch some (especially if it gets wet), but if you've got some tarp tensioners you should be just fine. Plus, if you use an adjustable grip hitch, or prussiks, you can easily retension your tarp if things get really stretched out. You might give it a whirl--it's cheap and light, and you can save the zing it for applications that really call for it. If it doesn't work out for you... you've still got that zing it .
You're gonna need a bigger hammock

I find it stretches quite a bit. Especially while wet, but as timabababaluka said, just use an adjustable/sliding knot and you can tighten it down. Also, I don't know where guys are finding the stuff they are able to splice, but the stuff I found was way too tightly woven for that. You can splice it through itself for nacrabiners though. I keep some in my pack for guy line extenders just because it's light and flourescent pink, so it's hard to lose.

    I err....I reckon.
Had some on my new cuben tarp that Stormcrow sold me....it kept the tarp tight. I replaced it with another line.

I picked up some of the loosely braided stuff at Ace Hardware. They call it Braided Synthetic Rope. 1/8". I had no problem using it for practice splices (buries, brummels, etc.) and made some guy lines from it.

I've since moved on to Zing It, but it served it's purpose.

    I believe nylon stretches 10%.

Don't remember where I got that figure from, but I do remember my slap straps (when I had them) demonstrating that much
