Fall Creek Falls, TN July 15-17

    HI EVERYBODY!

I am planning a hang for July 15-17 at Fall Creek Falls State Park in Tennessee. Here is the .gov site http://www.tn.gov/environment/parks/FallCreekFalls/

The camping section says there are "3 primitive camping areas on the overnight trails" so i'm thinking one of those would be good. I called to make sure hammocks were accepted and got transferred to an ever ringing phone. I'll try again later.

If there is enough interested people who want to join me i'll start a sign up sheet.

-edit. I got a hold of someone on the phone. They didn't know of any rules against hammocks. We'd need to stop in and get a permit to back country camp but the permit is free. There are designated camp sites off both overnight trails. This means its a go for me provided the interview i'm waiting to line up next month doesn't just happen to fall on that Friday, but even then i'll head later in the day.

Not to compete with you but we also have a hang on the same weekend - a bit east of Fall Creek Falls.

That's cool. I'm not trying to compete either. I went to Falls Creek Falls years ago with some friends and did some car camping. I'm wanting to go back and do some backpacking. Y'all have fun at your hang!

And you're coming up from Atlanta. I want to do both hangs, I live right smack in the middle of both of them. Hey, are you going to have an open bar?

Looks like my gf is getting her wisdom teeth out on the 13th. So I'm going to postpone my Falls Creek Falls trip. Consider this thread closed.

Sorry your trip fell through! I RV camped at FCF last fall and day hiked some trails. Maybe 10 years back (?) I back packed FCFs for an over nighter. I think there was a drought at the time, so the falls and creeks were at a very low level ( not so last fall though). Really nice country!
For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us....that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now.

When you do go, I can confirm that the lower loop (the one with Piney Creek Falls, Fall Creek Falls, the Cable Trail, etc) has two sites with many excellent sites for hanging.

You can see bits of them in this trip report. The first site is where you see me sitting eating lunch. The second is where we hung. There is also a large field near the second where potential converts could tent. I could easily see more than a dozen hammocks at each site. The one where we hung is only a touch over a level mile from parking at Piney Creek Falls.

Oh man that looks awesome. gf wants to go but IDK about taking her backpacking all hopped up on painkillers. I'm debating just going by myself.

Push it back until early November when the colors start to change. FCF will be gorgeous then, and it should add a real extra element to the hike.
