Do Cuben tarps need a continuous ridgeline under the tarp to support it, or can the material itself be pulled taut enough alone, without overstressing it, to create a taut ridgeline?

Above or below is fine

I tend to put the tarp below to allow me to have additional line to hang clothes up.
