    Too tall for my hennessy

    Hello everyone,

I am relatively new to this forum, and hammock camping in general. I started out with the cheap way, an expedition Hennessy. The height limit is 6 ft and so am I. Suffice it to say that it is a tight fit and I am looking for a longer hammock. Any suggestions on a longer hammock everyone, I am looking at the Claytor jungle or an upgraded Hennessy.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks all

I'm a bit partial to the HH Deep Jungle XL.

Hammocks are like hiking boots - make sure they fit, you spend alot of time in them.

This is certainly an excellent choice, one of my new favorites, as is my old standby the HH Explorer ultralight. Or if you really want to go luxury and don't mind a little extra weight, the HH Safari. It is not as heavy as it seems from the catalog, because the listed weight includes a fairly heavy tarp. (I am a smidgen over 6'1" by the way)

I'm also very fond of my Claytor No Net. All of these – and also the Claytor jungle hammock – are definitely in the "longer hammock" group, though none quite as much as the HH Safari.

haha its all been said. i agree with everyone
Dale Gribble: I'm thinking, "new hammock." For me, laying and swaying in a hammock is like a steady morphine drip without the risk of renal failure.

Randy : yea but just remember yer roots and where ya come from....you got Hennessy in yer blood son......

Without a combination height and weight rating I don't think size ratings are very informative. I am six feet and use my expedition often, I spend about one night a week in it and have been doing so for about 6 months. However, I don't have real broad shoulders and my weight is 165. I world rate the expedition for my size as being quite "serviceable" and I enjoy it quite a bit. I am sure I would enjoy it less if I had been spoiled by more luxurious accommodations but so far I haven't. So, if you are my size and funding is a real consideration give it a chance, you are not bad off. But, if you are bigger or funding is not a problem, get something bigger. I have never tried a regular sized Claytor but I read somewhere/sometime on the forum that they were a little on the narrow side as compared to other hammocks. I don't know if that is fact or opinion, someone who owns both the Claytor and something else might want to chime in.

I'm only 5'8", but I have wide shoulders and I felt really cramped in my expedition. Another thing was it was my first hammock, and now I know I was hanging it way too tight.

I'm 6'1" and never had a problem with my Explorer Ultralight. I'm also quite happy with my Light Hiker from Tree to Trail.
