    Problem with extending the ridgeline?

In everyday use are there problems I am not seeing in extending the attachment points for the structural ridgeline outward?

Assuming a 30 degree angle, I pick up 8 inches in overhead clearance to the ridgeline for every 12 inches I extend the mounting point. If, with my gathered end hammocks, I am using a continuous loop of Amsteel, spliced in place, running through end channels, I see only trivial extra costs in having each loop be, say 16 inches long instead of, say 4 inches. In costs, I'm just running an 12 more inches of doubled line at each end than I had to.

If my hammock isn't very long, this gets the ridgeline out of my face. Am I failing to anticipate disadvantages in the field?

The only thing I see is that it might force you to pass up an otherwise good spot because of the overall length.

The Speer hammock does this, btw, but it's a relatively short hammock.
