It is so nice to know that so many of the Good people here on the Forum work and teach our youth. Know some of you that I do. I now feel our youth are in good hands. Thank you All for you Dedication.

I am SM of Troop 909 in Tulsa. I have been sleeping in a hammock since 2004. I read this post by a Maine scoutmaster who uses a rope hammock:

    http://mormonsite.wordpress.com/camping-in-a-hammock/

Right after I read this, I bought the hammock he used, got a cheap tarp, and got off the ground. Two of my sons camped with me this way. We consistently were the driest campers in the troop. With a good pad and a 20 degree sleeping bag, I could stay comfy in winter weather below 30 degrees, which is what we get here.

Now I use a Hennessy. I bring the old mesh hammocks to camp for the boys to use in the afternoon. A few are interested, and I may yet convince them to get off the ground.

Hey just wanted drop in the things that do.

Im a Committee Member for the Troop and a Crew Assoicate Advisor

I've done lots of teaching things that goto hammocks

I did a big thing for knot tying using hammocks and traps so many troops use those popup traps now a days the kids dont get to use the knots they learn

then I a DIY whoopie slings and chainlinks for guidelines plus trap tensioners

I plan on doing DIY hammocks but not yet

but I got 5 other members of the Crew to swtich to hammocks

ASM Troop 220 in Alabaster, AL. Starting hanging about 2 years ago when my son bought me a cheap ENO clone at summer camp. No another ASM hangs and 2 of the older scouts (including my son). I hope to get back from this work trip in time to backpack and hang this weekend to the Walls of Jericho in north AL.

    Scouting & pop can stoves

Im an Assitaint Scoutmaster for Troop 274 out of Tulare, CA.

And we made the penny stoves, had to read the regs VERY careful. Scouts can use the stove but can't fuel the stove. Technically as long as adult fills it the scouts can use it

It also depends on district policy. Check their regs as well.

    Hey Ya'll,
It is good to see all the Scout participation. I've been an asst cubmaster, Weblos den leader and just crossed over with my son to as asst Scoutmaster
to Troop 377 in Danielsville, GA. My son and I both camp in hammocks, we get the same interesting comments ya'll do. But we love it.
