    Suggestions for gear storage?

I'm relatively new to hanging, but am now officially addicted.

Here is my question for the experienced folks out there. I am primarily a motorcycle camper. My only beef with my Explorer Deluxe (with stock fly...****, I wish I had ordered the bigger fly now...) is finding a place to store my riding gear (heavy stuff) overnight in rainy conditions. On dry nights, I just leave it draped over the bike. I've tried hanging it over the suspension lines, but it ends up kind of on my head and feet as the night goes on, and like I said this crap is heavy.

Any suggestions to keeping my stuff dry without carrying a bunch of extra stuff?

I'm not sure if this will help, but i ususally carry a trash bag or trash compactor bag (whatever is available) as a pack liner in my pack. On wet nights, i slip my entire pack in it, fold the top under, and then slide that under my hammock. Usually works fine,

I'd second a big old plastic bag wrapped up tight. That's how I'd do it if I still had my motorbike (..starts to weep uncontrollably...)

The gear hammock idea like the Molly Mac Pack works really well.

Well, I made my own gear hammock and it wasn't really that hard. Some photos of it are here:

    http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=30132

Since I also use it as a camp chair, the lines on it are plenty strong and support at least 200 lbs. I also made it out of SilNylon for waterproofness, although I generally store mine under my tarp with me. If you were going to keep it outside your tarp, you'd probably want to have a SilNylon piece hang over the top like the MMG gear box.

You can see how I use the gear hammock here, if you'd like:

    Hope that helps!

I've been refining my gear and during my last trip think I have it perfected

Hammock/tarp/suspension all fit in one saddlebag, each thing is in a small roll top waterproof bag I picked up at walmart. Tools, etc go in the other saddlebag.

My sleeping bag, UQ, towel and duffel bag with cloths go in a big waterproof roll top bag that is strapped on the back of the bike.

I also carry one more EXTRA big waterproof bag...

    At night:

    • Boots go in saddlebag
    • Riding gear (Aerostich suit) and helmet goes in one waterproof duffel
    • Anything else, cloths, etc go in the other waterproof bag

I've been thinking of picking up a simple Eno or something to use as a lounger during the day and gear hammock at night...

Thanks for asking this question. I plan to do some motorbike touring, and plan to hang when I do it. I wear full gear, and have wondered where I would keep it. I was thinking of wrapping it all in a tarp and tying the bundle to my bike seat.

gotta agree with the gear hammock
Dale Gribble: I'm thinking, "new hammock." For me, laying and swaying in a hammock is like a steady morphine drip without the risk of renal failure.
