    CRL with prussics

I sent this message to Paul at Arrowhead, but he's not be around this weekend and I'm running out of time (leave Thursday). Can anyone offer any ideas?

I just got a cuben tarp and would like to try a CRL on it. However here's what i'd like. I'd like my RL to run tree to tree, and run through the 3 attachment points on my tarp (each end and a loop in the middle). i'd like each end to attach via prussic, and I don't want any hardware around the trees. I will simply twist around the tree a few times and then tie a slippery half hitch. With the prussic (which i understand starts out as a loop) i'd like to be able to girth hitch that loop onto my tarp ridgeline tie outs and leave permanently attached to the tarp.

so my ultimate goal is to have my CRL permanently attached to my tarp so i can simply hang one side of the tarp, walk down, hang the other side, and then simply make my adjustments via the prussics.

Are you saying u want to attach the tarp to the prussic knots without hardware? You can take a piece of cordage 8" or so and do th prussic with ends together and the when the knot is made the ends will be in the middle and you can tie the tarp on. I did a similar set up but tied onto a small toggle which allowed me to take my tarp on and off the prussiks easily.

yeah.. put the prussik on the ridgeline, untie loop, tie back onto your ridgeline tieouts. or bury the ends for streamline.

(doesn't have to be a closed loop to start the prussik, either)

this is the trick to getting the setup you want. Your setup would not require any splices so it would be fairly easy to do.

i guess my next question is what kind of cord should i use? i only have zline 1.25 from zpacks, which may be too stiff to tie them. shipping if i ordered some, would have to be fast...

How about tie a toggle onto the prussics on the Ridgeline and just put the toggles thru your tarp connection points and then adjust?

I always attach my tarp with an open prussic and then tie the ends through the attachment points.

Just start with an 8" piece of cord and tie the prussic while holding the open ends together. Then pull the open ends through the central loop and you have a prussic with two loose ends rather than a loop. Tie to your tarp!
