How to seal nylon fabric edges?

I use a soldering iron with adjustable temp, i crank it all the way up to highest temp, and start slicing.
Very easy to cut with(even curved edges) and seals instantly

I'm not cutting, but sealing after someone else already cut and sewed.

I'll likely use the soldering iron.

But, for those without one, would silicon seam sealer, or better, would straight silicon caulking smeared directly on the edge also bind the threads and keep the fabric from further unraveling?

Careful where you lay the soldering iron down ... hint: not on the nylon fabric (oops)

Silicone sealant should do the job. How messy it gets is up to you.

I would try "Fraychek" first. It is a fluid similar to clear nail polish used for sealing edges. Whether it would stick to sil I don't know but if your wife has a bottle of clear nail polish around you could get a good idea by trying. In fact... you might find you can pick up cheapo nasty nail polish for less than the fraychek or silicone caulk. You don't need the good stuff. Cheap and nasty.. dollar store cheap is all you need.

Edit: Fraychek would work fine on DWR nylon and so would clear nail polish.

+1 on a soldering iron. Very easy to do, and works like a charm. This post is about sealing the inside frays on pockets, but if you are doing a DIY - you can cut and seal at the same time with a soldering iron.

Soldering Iron or Woodburning tool both work well.

+1 on the ramblinrev's candle. I use a new votive in a glass holder. Smooth and steady, about 1'at a time.

not sure why the inside ofa pocket would be any problem. just turn it inside out
