    Hammock Bliss Sky Tent

I just completed a review for the Hammock Bliss Sky Tent. It's posted on youtube, here it is for ya:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNy_imF_hK0

Short synopsis: the Sky Tent integrates the tarp with the bug net so it is compatible with just about any open top hammock. At 43.7 ounces it is probably heavier than many ultralighters (like me) want to carry regularly, but if you live in a place with heavy mosquito populations it may be something you want to have in order to deal with the pests. I would have loved something like this when I was stationed in Louisiana.

Updated 9-13-2011 with about 4 minutes of material to correct or clarify information from the original review.

    Thorough report SGT Rock.
Reminds me of the Ray Way tarp tents. A silnylon version might be nice at times.
I too will something make and joy in it's making

    Hi there SGT Rock,
I have and use a Sky Tent. I agree that it is not an ultra light set up, but there is so much room once you are inside. I noticed that you were hanging from the ridge line and for me that seems to change the shape of the tarp to a point where it might be less effective. I have been hanging my pack from the hammock suspension. The thing that I am looking into is to find the right placement and adding another pair of cinching holes so that in decent weather I can hang two hammocks in one tent. This would then make the set up very light and a safe place for my ten year old. What do you think of that?
Could you share a little more info on the loose ridge tied in with prusik knots. I think that would make it more versatile and potentially a little lighter.

Yep, I goofed on that. I'm editing in a correction on that.

I would't try it myself. Seems like it would be too stuffy in there with two hammocks.

Look at some of the threads on continuous ridgelines. Basically I would remove the stitching to the rope, and then sew on some plastic eyes to the ends of the tarp where you could tie prusiks to the eyes to connect to the tarp. It would look similar to how a Hennessy connects the fly to the suspension ropes, except without the hooks.

On the last note, Are you completely removing the rope or just allowing it to slide? It seems to me that the type of fabric, non ripstop PU nylon (I Think) could not take the stress of too much tension. Looking at your words and the knot description, I think you mean the line stays in. I will have to finish the fabric maybe with some elastic to keep the new opening tight without ripping.
I will let you know about the double idea when I get a chance to try it out.
Thanks for your input and sharing your knowledge.

If you do modify it, I would love to see how it comes out.

    Hi Rock,
I watched the updates for your review and it looks great. I like your tie out demo with your hiking poles too. The one thing I noticed that I had not noticed in first view was something that I have been having problems with. You hung the sky tent from the same straps as your hammock and I have sag issues with this. To this point, I have been tying out separately, but making the sliding fly attachment should solve that. Maybe not though, I would have to be able to pull it out at the same time as I am sitting in the hammock. I wonder if there is an elastic solution to this?
