Cuben Question

What quality of Cuben prevents people from coloring it?

All the tarps, Sacks, packs and various DIY gear I have seen online is all the same color, just some is more opaque than others.

I am curious why.

Just my take on it: Cuben is dyneema threads sandwiched between two layers of mylar film. The film can be colored at the time of production (you can buy cuben in different colors, though black, white, green and olive seem to be the most commonly used for camp gear), but I do not believe you can dye the mylar film after the fact. Kind of like trying to dye plastic wrap.

The polyester (mylar) layers are extremely thin, so denser coloring may not be possible.

Yeah,it can be colored, but not after the fact I believe.

One reason might be that colored cf3 costs 10% more /yard to buy. And, since the color it DOES yield is not very vibrant/saturated, many vendors might want to keep their costs down by just getting the undyed stuff. That is just a theory though. Having said that, you can find the colored stuff in quite a few places too.
