    Newbie from KY

Hey everybody, I've been lurking for months now and I've finally jumped in. I've loved the outdoors since I was born, and became an avid dayhiker over a year ago. I'm into the UL and fast hiking mentality, and my dayhikes are usually 25+ miles. I finally have the parents permission (I'm only 16) to start taking multi-day trips! Hanging has appealed to me since I first discovered it, and I'm going to make my hammock using Knotty's instructions. I already have a MacCat Micro (I know it's small, but it suits my style), a Hammock Gear Summer Phoenix UQ (1 ounce overfill), and my suspension (whoopie slings). My TQ is an Enlightened Equipment Revelation. I have the fabric to make my hammock, now it's just time to go over to my aunt's house for some sewing help, and I'll be good to go!

Thanks for this great forum, I've learned a bunch already and I can't wait to learn more!

Welcome 'Tuck! From Lexington myself, sounds like you got a good plan. Enjoy the forums, and Knottys instructions are top notch!

Ky: known for its speedy youngsters, but usually on the track!

Welcome! Sounds like you are greased lightning on the trail! Be sure to take some pictures of your hammock for us when you are finished! I live west of Bowling Green. Where in the state are you?

    Joyfully, Turtlelady

Welcome from another youngin' (19 myself)! I frequent the Red quite often for my rock climbing fixes. It's a shame the climbing is in such a beautiful place, cause I really should do some more hiking and backpacking when I go, but I just can't drag myself away from the climbing! (And Miguel's Pizza... Mmmmm!)

Anyways, I hope to be up to your mileage soon. I just did a 15 mile, 3500' gain/descent day and a 16 mile, 5000' gain/descent day while in Yosemite, but I had a late start (12:30pm) on the former and climbing gear with a rock climb on the latter. I'm sure with an earlier start, my usual light load, and a bit less elevation gain, I could be hittin' 20+ no problem.

    Once again, welcome!
