DIY 2x6 Hammock stand

I'm just getting around to posting the pictures of the hammock stand i made for my little brother for his birthday. I based it off of JJthedog's design (which I think is based on some one else's design.)
Here is the whole thing.

A couple things I did different is that it's all 2x6's and 4x4 uprights. To get the supports to fit with the 4x4 ends we chopped about 18" off each 4x4 and used them as risers.

We didn't see why the side supports should go on the bottom. So we put them on the ends thus making the entire thing sit flush on the ground.

Now that is neat - I was going to build a stand this weekend (already bought the 2x4's) - I like the way it sits flush with the ground. Good job!

Nice stand.

The potential problem with the "flush to the ground" design, is site choice. You will need a flat surface or a depression in the center. It the turf has a slight hump in the center, some rocking may occur.

Yep, but it would only raise it 1.5" or so, and a big enough bump would mess you up anyway. Since we knew we were putting it on the concrete of the porch that wasn't an issue. My father was concerned that with the side stabilizers underneath, the base may be prone to twisting or warping.
