    Goat Rocks Wilderness, WA

It's been around 24 years since I went backpacking out there. It was to me one of the most beautiful places I've been. This time my son is coming along. Being a strapping young 14 year old, he can handle a good amount of hiking. I'm looking for advice on trails, routes or anything else important. Would it be ok to set up a base camp and leave our gear unattended for day hikes from either 2 or 4 legged creatures? We will be out 5 days/4 nights. Any help would be appreciated.

Personally I would take my gear with me if no one is staying near camp. It probably wouldn't be and issue but I have heard of hammocks disappearing. I would rather carry mine and know for sure.

I suppose there would be nothing worse then coming back to camp and finding your stuff gone, except of course if you double the equipment (mine and my sons). Lets see, 2 hammocks, 2 tarps, 2 under quilts, 2 top quilts, etc I don't even want to know how much that is. Probably could sell it all and buy a used car
I am surprised that no one has been out in that area. I suppose there are so many places out in Washington to go. Here in Illinois it's really easy to pick a place. There are only a few to choose from

Last week of this month. The ranger said it should mostly be clear. How're the bugs? I'll posting some pics of the hammock in sweet spots.
