    7D nylon - .64oz now available for DIY'ers

Pretty excited to see the cottage manufacturers continue to source low weight fabrics, especially at a competitive price. This 7d is half the weight of traditional 1.1 ripstop. Someone needs to order a few yards and try it out on a top quilt.

+1 on that. I am about to make a IX UQ and TQ, which I'm considering not covering at all. This would make it more reasonable to have a cover without as much of a weight penalty, but I think it would double the cost of the quilts...

Just bought 25 yards of 1.1 digital ripstop for $2 a yard shipped.
No DWR though. That will be hammock material.

I have to order 5 yards of fabric to make a quilt for me.
    $10 vs $110 to save 3 oz.

I did buy some M90 not too long ago, but mostly for the DWR and taffetta finish. 1.05 oz. It was fairly expensive too at $10 per yard.

You can get 4.5 or 5mm silk for about $5 a yard and it weighs .5 oz per yard.
I have some but have not done anything with it.

    Going SUL is expensive.

Thru-hiker offers ultralight fabrics, Momentum 50 and 55. The 55 is brand new but the 50 has been out for over 6 months at least. There are some anecdotal reports of it not being 100% downproof (but this depends on the quality of down & how many quills are in it). The Momentum 50 has a finished weight (after DWR) of 0.75 oz/sy whereas Titanium Goat's is 0.645 oz/sy.

However, I saw a Karo Step quilt made with the cinnamon M50 and I must say that it was the nicest quilt I have ever seen

You're right SUL is definitely expensive, but worth it to some people. If you can make your own gear it really helps with the cost since you're supplying the labor. That's how I justify it anyway. I will probably make a top quilt and a down sweater with this 7D fabric.

What are your plans for the silk?

Definitely intrigued. I didn't like the color of the original M50 that thru hiker had. I was just looking at making a summer uq. And not that I have my base weight down to 10.5 lbs, this could be a nice addition.

I just ordered 3 yards from Thru Hiker for a planed remake of my TQ. With 1/2 .52 Cuben Fiber. Shell should be under 5oz. With 12oz down I should have a 20* TQ that is about 17-18oz. Cost about $190. I'll post when it done.
