    Early Winters Omnipotent for Sale

If you have to go to ground in bad weather, I have one of the world's most bombproof tents for sale. I am selling an Early Winters Omnipotent #1414, with the very rare vestibule. Here is a link to a photo showing what the tent looks like: http://www.oregonphotos.com/Resource...ack-exteri.jpg

This is a 2 person, 4 season tent. These tents are no longer made and the only way to get one is to buy it from someone like me who bought one years ago and no longer uses it. This tent has seen very light use. The only issue I am aware of is that the urethane in the pole sleeves has degraded, which can be cured by sprinkling some talc into the sleeves so they aren't sticky. It could also use a fresh coat of seam sealer, but otherwise is in very good shape.
Asking price is $495.00, plus shipping. PM me if you are interested. PayPal, cashier's check, or postal money order.

I would give this a try on Backpacking Light, The Lightweight Backpacker forums or White Blaze. Good luck.

Wow, crazy looking tent. I've camped for years and never seen one.

Are they light and pack small?

It must be unobtanium at $495 used. What were they worth new if I may ask?

    Google here I come

I'm back ... very interesting reading.

I'll be amazed if someone at a hammock forum pops $495 for a used tent- no matter what the quality or how strong it is. Still, thanks for stirring up the memories! Early Winters catalog was my main intro into the wilderness/backpacking/winter camping world back around 1983. I went on my first trips using several of their products, as well as some North Face, Patagonia and Marmot. But that catalog was my start. I had a stove that was made by MSR but sold by EW with their name on it. I still have that and I am sure it will still work. I had a green GoreTex bivy. One of my instructors used that same model on my NOLS course June 85. I ended up tossing it about 15 years later only because I never could keep the seems sealed and it kept leaking bad at the seams. I also had numerous other minor EW products, and still have (and use) some of them.

I used to visit the store way back when... still have my Winterlight, and a Terrashell.

You might try here, they like the old stuff:

    Thanks for the Suggestions

Thanks for the suggestions, Eastwa. Good to see a couple of other people who are familiar with Early Winters gear. I also have a Synergy Works ventile parka and one of their backpacks, along with a couple of Snowline down bags. I guess I'm dating myself, because most of this gear was purchased back in the mid 70s before Goretex and some of the other modern fabrics and materials took off.

Sometimes I think we should be careful before we reject the old tried and true. The old trappers understood that wool would keep you warm, even if it got wet. Give me a good set of merino wool long underwear and I can almost guarantee you I'll be dry and almost odor free compared to someone who has spent a few days in synthetics. I also like Filson clothes, which have been around since the goldrush--expensive, but tough as hell and very good quality.

As for the price on the tent, it's a collector's item. I can afford to wait for the right buyer who has nostalgia for a great design from the past.

Early winters brings back memories of my growing up in Seattle in the Magnolia neighborhood very near The store on Queen Anne Avenue. Had an EW gortex rain suit. 1983 as posted was the year I got my own REI membership. Got my Eagle Scout (Troop 8) in 1981, used that rain suit many, many times.

    Long live EW!

I think I still have an Early Winters stuff sack around somewhere. Used Early Winters stuff the first time I ever went backpacking. I traveled all the way from Florida to do a weeklong trip on the PCT. Wow, bringing back memories. Back when I was young and had knees that worked.
