    I meant without taking them out of their "socks." Sorry, my wording was confusing. Just slip the end of the webbing/sock in there as a toggle. Then you don't have to worry about pulling them out and/or losing them.

    I doubt it would hold very well. The toggle would form a bit of a leaver against the stitching with a lot of weight pulling on it plus the toggle itself would become load bearing then.

    If you used much wider webbing you might be able to run enough stitches to hold and then use a metal toggle but the length from the tree wouldn't be adjustable.
