    Double layer hammocks

I'm in the market for a new hammock. I was about to get a Hennessy Hyperlite, but I just discovered WarBonnet hammocks and I'm leaning towards a wbbb. The faq at warbonnet suggests that for my size (6', 180#) the 1.1 single might have a little sag. Double 1.1 sounds good, but how beneficial is it?

Even with a bit of sag, and not a double layer to stash my sleeping pad in, it will still be a huge upgrade in comfort from what I've been using. Do you think the double layer is worth the added weight?

I have a DL (non-wbbb) and it's nice to put my leg pad between the layers. It stays put, and is more comfortable than inside my TQ..

I also have a single 1.1, non-bb that hold's my 210# bulk with no issues. It does stretch a bit, but it's plenty comfortable.

    Warbonnet's website shows a single 1.1 up to 200#, but you'd get a flatter lay with a 1.7 or a double...

It's up to you! It all depends on your insulation choices...

I use an UQ and don't put it pad between the layers. However, in Florida it's a little extra skeeter protection.

How critical is weight for you? Will you be using a pad or an UQ? A DL will be a little flatter but it'll be comfy either way you go.

    I'm 6'1" 180#. I have a couple of diy SL 1.5's and a SL 1.9 and a WBBB DL 1.1.

None of my diy's have bug netting so it's hard to compare weight directly. But between my SL 1.5 and the BB, you'd be hard pressed to feel a difference in weight without a scale I think.

My SL 1.5 "gives" slightly more than the BB. I wouldn't say it stretches, but it gives. For me the BB offers slightly more support and when it's buggy, well it has a lot of advantages.

If you get uncomfortable with shoulder pinch I think a SL 1.1 might be too stretchy.

Of course and extra layer of 1.1 weighs about 6-8 oz so there's your choice.

This spring I purchased a WBBB 1.7 dbl layer.

I am now a big fan of doubles for summer temps. I have an underquilt for colder temps, but had been struggling with using a fleece bag inside my HH to ward off the chill of 55-60 degF nights. With the double WBBB I simply slip a thin (1/8") minicel pad between layers and it stays put. AS I change positions several times per night this is quite important to me.

    Two thumbs up for doubles!

FWIW, I just weighed a couple of hammocks. My DL 1.1 WBBB with whoopies weighs 20 oz and my SL 1.5 w/ whoopies came in at 12 oz. (both without tree straps)

    If you're concerned about weight...

    Otherwise, I'm with Jsaults. DL=

I like the advantages of doubles: slightly flatter lay, warmer, bug protection (reportedly), less pad slippage. I don't count my ounces (I would be better off loosing 5# from my mid-section, rather than my gear).

I'm 6'3" and 185 lbs and my fiance's double 1.0 works for me. (Discontinued?) I have the double 1.7 but would like to sell it and get the double 1.1. I like the option of putting a pad between the layers.

    Re: double

Thanks for all the replies guys!

Does the double layer really provide much more warmth on its own?

Weight and size is a real concern. I use a small 28L pack and I imagine that the second layer adds considerably to the bulk.

I really like the sounds of all the benefits a DL provides, seeing as I do use a pad instead of an under quilt, but I have gotten by just fine in a considerably less comfortable skeeter-beater hammock, so I suppose I won't miss what I don't know.

Do the listed weights include the stuff sack and guy lines?
