That's a good price for a Janome. I use a Baby Loc that is a rebadged Janome that I really like. I don't have experience with that exact model, but maybe someone else used it.

    The brand name is excellent.
The vendor is the Wal Mart of the internet. (Amazon is the Amway of the net... just to make that clear.) That does not mean anything nessecarily but don't expect and knowledge service or information from them. It's worth a try IMO. Refurbs are usually good buys. However remember they are refurbs for a reason. Sometimes it is because the machine was returned because it was the wrong color. Sometimes it was returned for a more serious issue. Supposedly the refurbisher (not always the factory) does a good job.
    Sometimes they don't.

All inall... it might be worth chance. Only you can make that call.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

I did a little research and these are factory reburbs with full warranty. Looking at reviews online, it seems like a pretty good beginner machine. Considering the basic stuff I want to do I figured I'd give it a try. I'll finally have a use for my dining room table.

If someone would have told me a year ago that I'd be buying a sewing machine for my own use, I would have thought they were nuts. No I can't wait for the **** thing to come.

LOL. I doubt ill use more than a couple. First projects are going to be a segmented pad extender and a sewed PLUG with insultex inserts. I figure if I can accomplish that, I will have gotten my money's worth. The last time I ran a sewing machine was in home economics almost 30 years ago.

Mason City? I spent days busting apart concrete piers with a sledgehammer at the coal plant. The coal was burning, and you could watch holes open as the wind blew tunnels through the piles. Fun stuff. We are also very close, I am right across the border, past Mount Carrol. Hope to see some pics of your diy.
