    Hello all

I am planning a retreat. I am going backpacking in Hawaii for 3-6 months. I am 6'2" 250 lbs. While researching gear I came across the ENO sleep system and have been obsessed with the idea since. Not necessarily the ENO system but one of the many similar options. In trying to learn more about these I found this forum and felt I had to join such a wonderful community. I live in Detroit Michigan and I am hoping to make the acquaintance of hangers in my area before I leave in August.

Welcome to HF fro Indiana. Sounds like your in for a crash course, there are quite a few hangers in your area I'm sure they will be glad to help you out. In the meantime there is tons of info here. I recommend Shug's video series for noobs they helped me tremendously and they are entertaining as well. Good Luck! Hawaii sounds niiice

Welcome ArnWulfe! You've found the right place to learn. ENO's are great. I started with one. You could easily sleep in an ENO Doublenest and get a bug net. Or you might want to get an all-in-one like a JRB Bridge, WBBB, Clark or Hennessy. Search around through the threads and expand your knowledge. Feel free to ask questions.

For a great primer, check out the one & only Shug's series for Noobs:

Welcome to the forums. My Bro in-law lives near you somewhere up there in the Detroit suburbs. I introduced him to hanging. I currently trying to get him properly outfitted with an underquilt. I hope you are able to learn a LOT before your trip.

Welcome! Wow, what a beautiful place to go backpacking...did a little there myself pre-hammock. Please remember that, as the saying here goes, pics or it didn't happen!

“Simplicity in all things is the secret of the wilderness and one of its most valuable lessons. I think the matter of simplicity goes further than just food, equipment, and unnecessary gadgets; it goes into the matter of thoughts and objectives as well. When in the wilds, we must not carry our problems with us or the joy is lost.” -Sigurd Olson
