$100 Pertex 800 fill top quilt

So are you going to try to slip into that thing once in your hammock or remove the bottom portion of it to make it a true topquilt?

I newbie in hammock camping and try both way - if circus with pad and bag will be difficult to me, i remove bottom.

I'm going to cut the back and make a true top quilt out of it. The temp ratings and specs are not correct on the hoodless version on the website. I know it has 7 ounces of 800 fill which is the same as the summer burrow from hammock gear and it is rated to 35 degrees. I plan to use it to about 40 and after that use a hooded down jacket to take it down to 32 but i usually get cold before my hiking buddies. I'll have it next weekend and I'll try to post some pics.

Got it! Weight is 17 ounces lots of down in the foot the Top area looks like it's good to about 40. Single layer of pertex on the back should be easy to cut into a quilt. I'll post pics after the deed is done but overall I'm very satisfied for a 103$ quilt with pertex quantum and 800 fill

got mine today and its very nice. Very very light. pretty good loft for only 7oz of fill. Definitely slitting the back open. I am really quite impressed. This will be an excellent top quilt. 17.7 Oz with stuffsack. Looks like it would be pretty easy to open the baffle seem and add another ounce or two of fill.

When I first started getting into ultralight gear about ten years ago, the Rab top bag was the one that everyone seemed to have! Good to know it's still being made.

I opened up the back on mine, sewed a 1/2 inch hem on either side of the split. Then pinched the 2 hems together and put a bartack at the end to keep the split from spreading. Works great as a top quilt with the extra material left to tuck around you without wasting down. I have no sewing skills to speak of but I think it turned out great. Hard to beat a $103 topquilt with 7.1 oz of 850 down fill.(according to the tag) The pertex material is slippery stuff to sew. I had to stretch it taught from both ends while feeding it through the sewing machine while removing pins etc. Needed 3 hands but got it done. Its a little daunting taking a scissors to a brand new bag you just spent a hundred bucks on.
